Soil Testing and Soil Condition Plans:

Different soils have different fertilities, which are related to their capacities to adsorb and retain plant nutrients and water. The retention of plant nutrients and water within your soils are related to its pH, organic matter content and soil type. Therefore, for a soil to be at its best it must have a high organic matter content and a near neutral pH.

 

This is why applying composts to your garden is good for its soil as it increases the organic matter content while also releasing plant nutrients. While applying lime or sulphate of iron to your soil helps to adjust your soils pH to near neutral levels if it is either acid or alkaline; this again helps to condition your soil.

 

To help you understand what soil type you have within your garden we can carry out a soil test to measure its pH and nutrient availability. This information can then be used within a Planting Plan or within a stand alone Soil Conditioning Plan, which are designed to improve your soils fertility.

 

This then allows you to know if your garden needs fertilizing and what types of plant are best suited to its soil. This not only saves you money by reducing unnecessary fertilizing but it also helps you to protect the environment, as excessive fertilizing can cause significant damage to ponds, streams, rivers and the sea.
